running regular tyres on dusty area will give you the effect of tapes... i think the best bet is to use PVCs... there are a few drifters out there that still use tapes but we still prefer PVC as it makes us feel that our car has more horses... ;D
Cheers.

Maybe this is a real dumb question. But if I don't have a saw, how am I going to cut the PVC to be 25mm wide? Ikea there that hardware shop should have PVC right? Cos I don't know where is Jalan Besah...

Jalan Besah is da road leading to Sim Lim Square/Tower. You can go buy a Hacksaw from the nearest hardware/DIY shop, get the small ones, not thoses that requires 2 persons to operate ;D Dun be like me hor ! .....went into HW shop, have to buy PVC pipe in minimum 10 foot length, told the guy to cut 1 pipe into little 25mm pieces........ .....the fella gave me dirty look, mumbled some chinese expletive and chased me outta his shop !

Hi Guys
Im Ross from Perth and i should be posting this in newbies corner but hey what the heck!!! haha..
I have been developing a tyre compound that drifts like a mutha and has more grip than ABS/polyprop and will soon be casting my own compound as soon as tne moulds are complete so stay tuned for them.
i am running my prototypes at the moment and they are proving to be very impressive and they wear virtually nil so you wont be changing them as often and not to mention they are black so look like real tyres.
I will post pics as soon as my camera returns from repair.. C U All Soon Ross ;D ;D ;D

got a stupid qns for the old birds.... i went to orchard plaza and bought myself pre-cut PVC tires. YEAH! i came home, trying to fix the PVC tires onto my rims, then here comes the problem. the PVC can slide over only one side. which means, if i slide it over the side without the spokes, then i cant slide it over the side with the spokes. if i slide it over the side with the spokes, then i cant slide it over the side without the spokes (hope u guys know what i mean.... hee). anyway, the bottom line is, i have one dangling side which makes the whole tires look rather unprofessional. i tried boiling the PVC, hoping that it will expand, but still the same problem. i tried hammering the PVC so that the thing will be flushed, but it just scraps off part of my rim. i tried to sand off one side, but i guess my sand paper is too smooth. anyone has a solution? if not, which side do u guys slide it over? the side with spoke leaving the side without spoke dangling or vice versa. thanks!

What rims are you using?

i forgot the name, but i bought it at the queensway shop. told the shop keeper that i need the rims for drifting and he gave me this packed of 8 rims. i know this sounds stupid, but they are white and have 10 spokes, in a star pattern, 2 spokes per edge. heeheehee.... hows my description?

Ah yesss....i believe you're talking bout those speedminds rims...and i also believe that those rims fits over pvc as easy as ABC... ;D...wonder why you had a hard time ... unless its a different rims....then you have to trim abit of the side edge of the rims...not too much but just nice for the pvc to be able to fit entirely over...you can use a flat file for that....depending on how much you filed...put a layer or two of tape(pvc/duct)to secure the rims to the pvc..... Different ppl have different method....this is just my own 50cent worth of method.... ;D ;D

wow, i wouldnt describe even sliding over one side as easy as ABC. i actually sweat while trying to fix 4 tires! anyway, thanks for the quick reply! guess i will have to wait till tomorrow to try again.
