yea i dont know if this is the right place but sry if it is
i have a traxxas nitro 4 tec and im having probs on ending the drift i can start one easy go around the turn then spin like a top my local shop said to put foam tires and a sway bar kit so i did and it drive like im on ice so what am i doing wrong? is it to much tration, diff, shock, trans, ride hight
im not trying to say that i cant drift but i cant controlle it when i want to stop drifting once every 100 times or so its a sweet drift but i lose all my speed to

actually nitro drifting can be done, but bear in mind that its very damaging for the engine, coz u no matter how hard u rev it, its still stuck at the same speed, which in fact, is hurting the engine so much. so my opinion is to use a cheaper engine for nitro drifting.
No way u are gonna drift with foam tires, these tires that we are using now are for grip racing. u can't also use ABS coz its too slippery, the only way is to buy those drift tire from yokomo or other manufacturer. remember than u need some tires with traction in between foam and ABS.

where have u added ur sway bar kit ? both front and rear ? i learnt tat sway bars shud be added to the opposite to where u wan traction for drifting u should want more traction in the front so i suggest u play around with the sway bars ? add the sway bars to the rear only update us .. wud like to see ur results

Actuly the are very hard foam tires becouse of the weight of the car is enough to lose traction in the rear but it give so much to the front it just stops dead cold unless i romp on it then it just like im on ice no tracon on ether front or rear oh i took off my front sway bar off becouse i snaped the rear sway bar when it hit a curb
i know foam is for traction but if i use rubber i blow the tire off in mid run full glued has three speed just installed {not easy} one way locking front diff at 200 rpm stall {pain in butt to tune} all jr servo and remote ride hight is at 3mm front 5mm rear suspension is soft rear medium front ajustibles with resivor
so im going to put the sway bar back in the front and put the stock .15 back in and try that
this is how i drift is i let off the gass it gos side ways i then start gossing and counter steer and then it gos 50/50 good or spin
so tell me is it car or driver or both lol sry that i took so long to respond thanx for the help oh this has taken me a month to get this car to drift almost there though

for drifting i think the shock settings for the springs shud be soft for the front and hard on the rear wads the weight of ur shock oil i feel that the shocks are the most important part for a rc car to drift well and they shud be in priority
try drifting without the sway bars 1st and see how it goes? try to have the car as stock as possible and keep it simple upgrades are for u to drift better if ur stock settings(i mean without any upgrades; ie ur sway bars) for drifting is not good enough yet .. y add stuff that might make it drift worst?
wad i can see from ur reply is tat your car is still indefinite and unstable ? as u said it goes 50/50 good
maybe u shud try PVC or abs tires? i m afraid tat PVC wud rev ur engine too much and lessen its life, so i dunoe whether its appropriate.

i tryed the abs tire and it was good but i never kept strait in staight aways and when the 2.5 was put in it blew up those tires but the pvc you r right it runs a little higher rpm i got the shocks set perfcectly no sway in the cars movement and when i ditch the sway bar that helped alot i put back the 3 speed tran to stock now its good enough it dosent drift like the videos but it dos drift now oh would i be better off getting the tt01 drift car? though?{thanx alot for the help }

there wud be lesser hassle if u used an electric caar as u didnt really have to take not of the engine being over rev and stuff like a nitro car does tt01 is an entry level car which is good..

there is a TT01 D version out there.. D as in drift spec version it wud be best if u get tat if u are goin for a TT01 car for drifting
set up is quite the same .. suspension front soft, rear hard.. most pple lock the rear differietial and tires u can use the usual pvc or abs over soft rims like speed mind and kawada rims there is no ride height for u to adjust for this entry level car .. and the shockss are air shocks .. u can fill the shocks with shock oill though
i m sure u wudnt have any problems with ur past experience with a nitro car ..lolz have fun

With nitro engine, always tun your engine rich, richen the high speed neddle, so the car doesn't rev much and there is enough oil to lubricate engine when drifting, very important to protect your engine. Try to learn your car weight distribution and practice. Most old nitro racing car has rear engine therefore it's heavy in rear causes spinning. Also the great amount of torque created by nitro engine makes the car slippery.
Few thing you can try. - Use HPI drift tires (these tires are meant for nitro) - If there is a slipper clutch option for your car, buy it, and you can adjust the amount of torque to the wheels. If not try to put some of the diff oil or anti wear grease to the inside of the clutch bell. It will make the loosen the clutch engagement and decrease torque at acceleration.
The last thing is to practice to get used to nitro.
Have fun.
