Yup. I do agree with you the tools are important. Perhaps times have really change, we are now so dependant on electronic gadgets & things like that now just to be able to setup the car correctly. That is always lies on how deep one's pocket is end of the day.
Nevertheless the effort require to put in to practice, practice, sharpen the individual driving skills are equally important than having all the gadgets to setup the car.
As for Hirosaka, in his early days as a pro when his dad has to be the guy that setup all his battle machines, his dad did the right thing for him to lay down his foundation of concentrating to drive the car more. Pardon me, but that is how I feel.

Which would you get between nomadio & spektrum? Seems to be quite the same technology A380 Plus Minus: Eagletree comes with software and data is stored to be downloaded, spektrum has none. System is compatible with any existing radio system whereas spektrum, you must pre-owned a spektrum radio module+rx. Eagletree data recorder is the same price as the spektrum telemetry but eagletree telemetry is expensive. Eagletree doesn't come with lap counting whereas spektrum has but it has realtime 'graphical dyno' output. Currently available in the market is eagletree which is more established brand (similar product for plane, boat) and more sensory gadgets available. If you own a Spektrum and don't like tweaking with data and optional gadgets then Spektrum Telemetry is for you. But if you haven't got a Spektrum, Eagletree is more worth to consider, cos of functions, features and cost.

As for Hirosaka, in his early days as a pro when his dad has to be the guy that setup all his battle machines, his dad did the right thing for him to lay down his foundation of concentrating to drive the car more. Pardon me, but that is how I feel. yes, time have changed and so did RC evolve, including its ever improving electronics. Driver's got to practice hard in order to land on better level and so does all the equipments supporting him/her. At high level racing for instance, equipments or any other tool that has supporting role may become the difference between losing and winning. It may not always be the case but when one's competing and as long as the pocket allows, sky is the limit to have what's best. Better tools, better cars require better drivers ideally, but nowadays it become so widely available that common or even rookie drivers with right pocket can get the same (well almost the same-all those factory drivers get all the best batch of everything). Skill is important but everything else supporting it are equally so but this is not a must. Here's a teaser: I can beat Hirosaka if he run a Nikko + AA cells with my TC3 but i surely can't beat him if he runs his Yoke, even if he's driving with his toe..with 4cells and 2WD at that

Drifting, the concept of driving a car on the edge of control, sliding it through a series of turns, is taking the motorsports world by storm. R/C Drifting is, as expected, growing at a rate equal to that of its full size counterpart. Always on the cutting edge, Team Orion is proud to introduce the Drift Machine concept - a carefully selected line of electric motors, batteries and option parts designed specifically to take advantage of limited grip plastic and rubber tire equipped drift cars. Machine wound, each Drift Machine (DM) motor is based on Team Orion’s world renowned, championship winning, V2 modified racing motors and use the same aluminum endbell, can, magnets, and armature blank. Two track tested winds are currently available - an 11-turn for rubber tire equipped cars and an 18-turn for plastic tire equipped cars. Adjustable timing is standard (US Spec) but fixed timing versions are available for those wishing to drift Japanese style (J-Spec). Fully upgradeable, 11-turn and 18-turn hand wound armatures are available. All standard V2 brushes and springs can be utilized for optimal tuning. Additionally, two Drift Machine battery packs - one with 3300 mAh capacity and one featuring Team Orion’s exclusive 3800 mAh ZXR cells - are available to drifters seeking maximum performance at an economical price. For ease of use, both packs come assembled in stick form with a Tamiya style connector.
