Dear all,
Imperial Racing Project Team is representing Team Singapore for the 2005 12 Hour Merdeka Endurance Race in Sepang at the end of Aug 2005....
We have just launch our new Prototype car yesterday at Goodwood Park Hotel.
Our race Machine is a Super Taikyu Spec Subaru Impreza WRX STi RA Version Spec C producing 500 BHP with weight of 1100kgs.
As according to the picture below, our team drivers are Mr Ian Ho, Mr Rhommell Singh and Mr Jeffery Keng (From Left to Right)
So I will post more pictures when I return from Sepang at the end of next week.
Below is the abstract from ChannelNews Asia :
SINGAPORE: Motor sports are set to move up a gear or two in Singapore, after getting their own Team Singapore logo, a first for any sport in Singapore.
The logo was unveiled on Monday by the Singapore Sports Council and the Singapore Motor Sports Association.
And the first persons to use the new logo will be three teams who are taking part in the Merdeka Millennium Endurance Race later this month.
The event, held in Sepang since 2000, is Asia's biggest race.
70 cars from around the world race over 24 hours non-stop for top honours.
Singapore will be sending three teams, each with three drivers, for the race.
The teams will display the Team Singapore Motor Sports logo on their cars.
The teams have been training hard.
Leslie Chang, driver of Team Stamford Continental, said: "Most of the teams started serious preparation some two months ago. In between, one or two teams have already taken the car up to Sepang and do testing. And tests have shown very favourable results."
In fact, one of the teams had a podium finish in last year's race and the Singaporeans are confident of doing better.
This is more so, as their performance would dictate more support in future.
For now, though, the unveiling of the logo has set the wheels of change in motion, possibly helping to generate more corporate sponsorship of the sport in general and accelerating the case for a permanent facility in Singapore.
Matthew Lee, president of the Singapore Motor Sports Association, said: "All this training programme requires a facility. We can't train on the road, it's not safe, and it is not safe to train in the car park. We need the environment. Every other sport has it."
Beyond races, the motor sports association will also promote the sport to the younger generation in schools and institutes of higher learning. - CNA/ir
