SG Drifters r/c-DRIFT Series Trials
Well, after last week¡¯s trials, me and our Chief Judge, Mr Patrick, from Imperial Concepts has spent a lot of time planning and coming up with a brand new system. Instead of just judging with our instincts, we came out with the proper point system.
How the systems work? A series of corners would have a scale of 1-10points. A even number of corners that requires drivers to drive their cars¡¯ front and rear bumpers to as close to the corner markers as possible is laid out. 10points being the best. With that, each round would sum up to 60points in this particular trial. That would only be the ranking stage.
For Tsusio(Twin Drift/Battle), the same system applies with the addition of 10points to the chaser if the driver is able to keep a good distance of 1m from the leading car. As the distance gets larger, points goes lower. So for this trials, a total of 130points (60+70points) for each driver.
Deductions would come in the form of bad driving. Examples would be understeer or a crash. Points deducted would be 1-2.
How the day went? A total of 13 drivers registered to be ranked. They are: 1. Weijie (MR4TC/AE86) 2. Shidy (EVO IV/Chevy Truck) 3. AC (TA05/NSX) 4. Krado (TT01/Altezza) 5. Jason (MR4TC/Kei S15) 6. Shiun (MR4TC-SD/Supra) 7. Raymond (TT01/Elise) 8. Rubbish (MR4TC/Crown) 9. Cash (MR4TC/S15) 10. Marah (TC4/350Z) 11. Dirt (TB02R/350Z) 12. Jimmy (TT01D/WRX) 13. John (TC3/WRX)
Each driver will go for 2 rounds. Total 120points and they will be ranked from there. Rank Positions: 1st: Rubbish (76points) 2nd: Marah (71points) 3rd: Jason (63points) 3rd: Shiun 5th: John (58points) 6th: Shidy (57points) 7th: Weijie (56points) 7th: Cash 9th: AC (41points) 10th: Krado (36points) 11th: Raymond (28points) 11th: Dirt
Well, from the results that we see here, the points system did bring about a huge scramble to the ranking. Our King of Battle, Cash, fell to 7th rank. What I can say here is, not his fault. The new system is unfamiliar to many, including the King of last week.
Tsusio(Twin Drift/Battle)
Round 1: With the ranking all out, the table for battle is out, with the following: 1. Dirt VS Raymond 2. Krado VS AC 3. Cash VS Weijie 4. Shidy VS John 5. Shiun VS Jason 6. Rubbish VS Marah From the list, we could expect a hell of a battle out there. Simply just compare them to the ranking chart and you would know what I meant.
Battle 1: Both newbie, performed pretty well for their first time. It¡¯s always good to see new people performing better. Well, Raymond being a little more consistent, smoked Dirt who, I guessed was just that little too new.
Battle 2: Both also pretty new, did better than expected. Lines were not too clean, which I guessed could be probably due to their experience. Krado took it away from AC by just that fair bit.
Battle 3: This round was really interesting. With the King of last week battling Weijie. Both did well, with pretty good lines and some close encounters. Well, the King is still the King here, so he walked away, with that little more experience.
Battle 4: John performed with very much consistency this round beating Shidy by that bit. Shidy missed the previous battle with no radio, so he missed this round with not enough practice.
Battle 5: This round probably was the finest with both competitors from last week. A great battle with many great drifts from both drivers. Jason, got the best out of Shiun with cleaner and tighter lines.
Battle 6: The most sought after round, brought us laughter and excitement. Both did well, in fact, very well, with Rubbish winning by that margin. Inconsistent but clean line when he leads brought him there.
With that, we ended the first round of battle. I really have to say that, when it comes to battles, many things can happen. Ranks doesn¡¯t matter anymore. Its a lot more exciting and a lot more tougher. We see many differences when we compare the ranking and the winner of battles.
Round 2: The list of the following battle was out after some calculations and they are: 7. Raymond VS Krado 8. Cash VS John 9. Jason VS Rubbish
Battle 7: Krado performed well in this very round, scoring very well when chasing. He made vast improvement from pervious rounds. Raymond failed to perform here, making the gap huge.
Battle 8: This is one hell of an exciting round. 2 great drivers met in one great and happening round of battle. Their scores are so tight, that I guessed, it gave the judges a hard time to consider a re-battle/sudden death. Well, in the end, they gave it to John.
Battle 9: Another battle that is worth the wait. Like the previous battle, scores were high and tight. Sadly, the King in ranking failed to outperform Jason. I guess sedans are just for cruising and not for drifting. ƒ8ž1
With the end of round 2, winners were prepared for the final battle. With ranking, its decided that John and Jason will fight for Championship.
FINAL BATTLE: There is not much I could say for the final battle. All I have to say is, one should be there to experience it. Excellent drivers with excellent handling and definitely, the best battle. Jason holds on to all the clean lines and John follows up close. John emerge the champion with his cool.
This event has been a really successful one. I do hope that future events would have more drivers joining the fun. Ask any competitors and I believe, they will tell you the fun and kick of battles and competition.
Its been a great event, and I would like to thank some people here.
Thanks for your sweat and brain juices ¨C Patrick (Imperial Concepts) Thanks for joining and competing ¨C Competitors Thanks for being there ¨C All others

SG Drifters r/c- Battle 2: Both also pretty new, did better than expected. Lines were not too clean, which I guessed could be probably due to their experience. Krado took it away from AC by just that fair bit. Lol AC (Al Chong) newbie mehh??!! lol .. not to make excuses for any losses but i feel the FIRST TWO battles were a bit lopsided because the competitors were not told to switch places, thus we have ONE drifter leading in both laps. Also they were not told it is OK for the chase car to lap the lead. It wasn't obvious with the first battle as both were almost absolute newcomers with Dirtdynamics coming to his very first drift meet and thrown into they fray. He did admirably well as did Raymond. The second battle was abit more glaring. Krado was allowed to lead in both laps , by which he was spinning out alot and very inconsistent as a lead car. As a chase car Al was given the impression (from previous battles that we've had previous drift meets) that you were not allowed to lap your lead car. Thus he stayed BEHIND krado at all times. therefore those two situations mixed together brought forth a very imbalanced scenario. Compounded by the fact that AC did not get the oppurtunity to take the LEAD. the battles grew more interesting AFTER battle two when the Chief Judged announce that you had to swap places for the second lap and it WAS OK to lap your opponent if the lead car had spun out. Understandably this being the FIRST drift series there are bound to be slight hiccups.. also after the first round of qualifiers the top 12 were chosen, the matchups for the elimination were picked in the order of ranking . 1st: Rubbish (76points) vs 2nd: Marah (71points) 3rd: Jason (63points) vs 3rd: Shiun 5th: John (58points) vs 6th: Shidy (57points) 7th: Weijie (56points) vs 7th: Cash 9th: AC (41points) vs 10th: Krado (36points) 11th: Raymond (28points) vs 11th: Dirt my thought's are shouldn't the pairings for the elimination round be drawn at random.. to mix it up a bit give the whole competition an element of luck and suspense to the whole thing. I know by writing this it may seem to make me look like I am a sore loser, which I am not. I never expected to make it to the battle stage . Anyway these are just my two cents worth always taken with a grain of salt. Kudos to organisers for bringing this event to us , and I hope we can take this to another level

Shid, dun worry man... i believe the rules are not fixed yet... think there will be a change to the pairings for eliminations round. Alot of feedback had been given by us to the organisers that nite and in future the pairings for elimination rounds might be chosen thru drawing lots... which all goes down all to luck liaoz.... ;D Hope next time the rules and regulations can be posted earlier... so can keep us updated... and just in case those busy people out there are not around a computer to log on to sgdrifters all the time...duno wats happening...

Thanks for your comments. Cheers.

Yea i've been missing in action for quite awhile. i need to buck up alot too, more practice. haha
anyway just to check on the shell thingy. On the next comp can change shell or not huh, since its still on trial? to a different one cos i dont quite like this one too. hahah cos my shell front bumper half of it is like "dangling" already, then i cut it off and now it look like "vomit". lol
are you guys planning to add in "drift link" points too in the future?

Only right after our turn was the announcement that we would be asked to swap places.. But well, its a trial. Nothing much to worry about ranking here... just that I'm very happy that Tamiya Lion beat Yokomo Tofu... That's enough for me to smile at WJ... heeheeeheee ;D

I think that I am the best person to explain the situation.
Firstly, we dun have enough marshalls to do the work, coz it is a trial battle and not a real competition.
Besides, we have 13 participants and very hard to do pairing of the competitors. In real d1 1:1 racing, 1st position will go with the 9th Position, and the 2nd position will go with the 10th position, so on and so fore...
So we just do random pairing.
And this is a trial test, after that tuesday nite, I believed everyone got an idea of the judging rules and criteria. Additionally, the standards of everyone is not the same, overtaking can be demoralising for some. Although it is allowed, but I am still discussing with the organisers on whether to put the overtaking rule in or out. Will keep the competitors informed.
The organisers are going to organiser a proper race with a more proper track, and setup, so that it is more of a proper competition. Will keep you guys updated.
Anyone not happy or not satisfied with the ruling of the judging of the race, please feel free to comment. We have worked on many systems before and non seems to work. Coz we follow D1 GP judging by point allocation for each corners and how precise you are in your drift, isn't that what we want in drifting, sliding and precise, additionally, when we do twin battle, we are not chasing the car in front like grip racing. you need to slide your car too and also to gain points, while chasing. you can follow close, but you dun slide, you got no points, simple as that.
Only through competitions, will we be better in our skills and car setup.
Good luck people and of course, train hard, play easy !
Cheers

I think the system is gonna be good. And following the real d1 1:1 racing will be cool as to experience the real thing in "rc manner". As for now it's good to watch, monitor and help/build up everybody's skill to another level through the trial comps, fine tune the system as we go, they're bound to branch out from there, getting more interested in tunning their cars, exchange tips, learning the different types of bends from different types of circuits/tracks, setting up workshop in between which might take quite awhile. Till then i guess the system is pretty much settle down already. until the target time where we have a pool of experience drifters to represent sg drifters and as well as to help new people joining, with better knowlege and skills. Above all its just what i think. And again are you guys planning to add in "drift link" points too in the future? lol just curious if the real d1 1:1 racing have that? Cheers!

It's just feedback, discussion and brain storming i guess. For all the fun and laughters in this hobby. I believe you will! Keep it up!
